Romannobridge Handicap 28thJune 00 Organiser: Willie Mykura
Despite days of fine weather before and
after the run, Wednesday evening was misty with light rain, and I feared that
many runners would get lost on this unfamiliar route involving 3 climbs and
descents over mist covered tops. To my surprise though, everyone found their
way round pretty well using my fuzzy maps, up until the final hill when the
leading group (including some notable orienteers!) descended the wrong ridge,
allowing me and Andy to race for the winning position. Many others took slight
route deviations in the mist, but we still finished in a fairly tight time
spread. Only Keith failed to finish - due to tired cycling legs, not
getting lost…. Most runners enjoyed this new route, next year we’ll try it
without the orienteering challenge. The Romanno Inn provided good food and
drink, at a leisurely pace afterwards.
