Ravensheugh Handicap 17th May
00 Organiser: Keith Burns Ravensheugh lived up to its reputation for
fine weather despite the threat of showers all day; those who stayed away
missed a perfect beach BBQ evening. Although a large audience turned out, many
offered lame excuses for not running (Island Peaks, etc…!), so just 15 souls
set off along the beach to challenge the soggy sand, bruising boulders and
slimy seaweed, heading for fine views of the Bass Rock and Tantallon Castle. As
this race was a month earlier than usual, the dazzling rays of the low sun
added to the challenge of the boulder scrambling. But on the way back, the sun
and wind behind us made for a lovely run for home. The finish spread was quite
wide at 21 mins, Alan won by a comfortable margin over Crawford, who ran the
fastest time. Fortunately there was a minimum on injuries this year. Barbel
expertly tended the BBQ while Andy Laycock's fine bonfire made a great focus
for the party as the early sunset was replaced by a brilliant full moon.
