Boghall Handicap 12th April 2000 Organiser: Willie Gibson A good mix of old hands and new faces turned
out for the opening run of the series, Willie's classic route climbing steadily
onto Allermuir, then a lovely steady decent behind Castlelaw, before the knee-cruncher
straight up onto the top, and home. The appallingly wet weather miraculously
cleared for the two hours of the run, providing a cold blustery evening for an
exhilarating run. Several runners, including myself, didn't read the map and
took route deviations, some missing out vital checkpoints. The handicaps were
based on the Carnethy 5 race results, and favoured the slower runners for the
first race. Consequently the slower runners finished first, giving a fairly
wide finish spread. New member Cali Ingham took the tape in her debut handicap
run, while Rupert ran the fastest time. Most of us adjourned to our old
favourite watering hole, The Steading, for the de-brief and refreshments
afterwards.
