SHOCK SIGNING FOR CARNETHY

In a major coup for Carnethy (or is it a minor co-op) one of Scotlands finest ever biermeister hillrunners has signed up on the dotted line.
After a below par performance at the World Masters Beerdrinking in Keswick, we are delighted to announce that Dermot McGonigle has decided to join a real club as he had heard about our elite training regimes.

Dermot has his oxygen uptake measured
Dermot is pictured both during and after his first elite training weekend, as you can see it eventually proved too much but its early days, and as the crème or “froth” usually rises to the top we’re confident that he’ll be a great asset to the club and be able to join in more serious escapades like the recent Carnethy Elite Late Season Training Camp at the Fords of Avon refuge.

Dermot was quoted as saying:- “I knew the game was up after JBF nearly caught me at Telfes and in a moment of sober reflection, (sic) knew it was time to move on to new and greater challenges with Carnethy, especially as I wanted to wear the famous yellow vest before it disappears forever”

Anon.

The Importance of Foot Hygiene

Now that winter is coming, it is important that athletes, particularly hill runners, take good care of their feet. This was the message given recently by Dr Mehta Tahrsal at a conference on Preventative Sports Medicine held at the University of Glasgow. Dr Tahrsal explained that for good posture and balance, athletes should choose shoes that allowed the toes to remain well separated. In addition, all mud should be washed off the feet and the toenails kept well-trimmed and polished in order to prevent infection. Dr Tahrsal's talk was illustrated with a number of interesting and informative slides.

It's been a dry Summer
In case you haven't noticed, it has been an exceptionally dry summer and many of the reservoirs are at an unusually low level. Upper Glendevon reservoir, in the Ochil Hills, is more than 60ft below its usual level. A picture like this was seen recently on BBC Scotland News and shows the farmhouse which has seldom been seen since it was flooded by the reservoir waters over 50 years ago.

Your roving reporter brings you this exclusive action-packed picture from inside the aforementioned farmhouse - the picture that you didn't see on television. By the way, kiddies, don't try this after a prolonged period of heavy rain!
